📖 Bach's musical legacy reinvented

This curated concert investigates how renowned composers reinterpreted Bach's counterpoint. The journey begins with a suite of cantata sinfonias arranged by Paul Goodwin himself, followed by Edward Elgar's grand orchestration of the Fantasy and Fugue in C minor, celebrating Bach's organ sonorities with dense orchestral weight.

In striking contrast, Anton Webern's pointillist setting of the 6-part Ricercar from The Musical Offering explores intricate instrumental colors. The programme also features Bach arrangements by Ralph Vaughan Williams with Arnold Foster, and Gustav Holst, concluding with Heitor Villa-Lobos' Bachianas Brasileiras No. 2, blending baroque technique with vibrant Brazilian rhythms.
