📖 Genoveva, Prokofiev and Schumann's Fourth

The program opens with the overture to Genoveva, Robert Schumann's only opera, condensing dramatic contrasts between heroic gestures and dark passions in just ten minutes. It is followed by Sergei Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1, a piece blending fairy-tale atmospheres and captivating lyricism with moments of sharp sarcasm and rhythmic frenzy.

The concert concludes with Schumann's visionary Symphony No. 4, celebrated for its cyclical structure across four movements connected thematically, where foundational motifs reappear transformed throughout the entire piece.

🎻 Conductor and soloist

Acclaimed Japanese violinist Akiko Suwanai performs as the featured soloist in Prokofiev's concerto. Conductor Philipp von Steinaecker, co-founder of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and leader of the Mahler Academy, leads Euskadiko Orkestra.
