📖 Fluorescent light as an artistic medium
Over more than thirty years, Dan Flavin devised a radical artistic practice that bypassed traditional display conventions such as frames and pedestals. In 1963, the New York artist began working with standard commercial fluorescent lights as an aesthetic medium, defining electric light simply as another tool.
Working within the limits of industrial colors and standardized lamp lengths, Flavin developed an architecturally dynamic vocabulary of corners, monuments, barriers, and corridors. The exhibition highlights his early explorations alongside landmark works that cemented his role in Minimalism through elemental forms and active viewer engagement.
