📖 Mythology, folklore, and immersive environments

The exhibition explores the creative universe of Zadie Xa, focusing on themes such as identity, folklore, and the transmission of diasporic cultural heritage. Working across painting, textiles, sculpture, sound, and performance, Xa creates multisensory environments populated by tricksters and hybrid figures that disrupt established historical narratives.

Drawing on Korean shamanic ritual, mythology, personal experiences, and speculative fiction, the presentation addresses interspecies communication, symbols of protection and transformation, and the spiritual significance of place and territory.

🎨 An internationally acclaimed artist

Born in Vancouver in 1983 and based in London, Zadie Xa has shown her work at renowned institutions such as Whitechapel Gallery in London, Space K in Seoul, Thaddaeus Ropac in Paris, MoMA PS1, Palais de Tokyo, Haus der Kunst, and the 2019 Venice Biennale. Her collaborations with artist Benito Mayor Vallejo further investigate masking and trickster archetypes. In 2025, she was shortlisted for the Turner Prize for her Sharjah Biennial 16 installation.

✨ A singular opportunity to discover the layered, immersive vision of Zadie Xa in Bilbao.
