📖 Memory, myth, and collective identity

"Lamiako 1979" is set in the Lamiako neighborhood at the end of the 20th century. The opera explores the revival of mythology and popular memory to build collective identity, reflecting upon belonging, loss, and the connection to the past.

With music composed by Jon Sáenz Rubio and a libretto by Hegoa Álvarez Zorroza, the work blends oral tradition and contemporary composition with electronics to craft a singular scenic universe.

👥 Leioa Kantika Korala and creative team

The musical and dramatic heart of the performance is Leioa Kantika Korala, a benchmark in Basque choral singing with more than two decades of history. Basilio Astúlez leads the musical and choral direction, while Lucía Astigarraga manages stage direction and scenography, joined by costume designer Ibai Labega.

The soloist lineup features Haizea Lorenzo as Haizea, Iñigo Fernández as Pello, Nerea González as Eloísa, and Imanol Gamboa as Tomás.
