📖 Stories of a country in transformation
Four decades ago, milestone Spanish films marked a turning point by using childhood, grief, fear, and desire as subtle lenses to engage with sociopolitical reality. Cinema during the Transition went far beyond stylistic reinvention, bringing to light long-silenced issues such as institutional violence, authority, alternative family structures, social disillusionment, and newly won freedoms.
The programme brings together six essential feature films offering multifaceted views on this historical era. Highlights include Carlos Saura's Cría cuervos (1976), capturing the emotional climate of late Francoism; Eloy de la Iglesia's El diputado (1978), which brought homosexuality into open public debate; Cecilia Bartolomé's feminist perspective in Vámonos, Bárbara (1978); and Pilar Miró's El crimen de Cuenca (1980), exposing persistent repressive systems, alongside work by figures such as Pedro Almodóvar.
🎬 Zinemateka Azkuna Zentroa
Zinemateka Azkuna Zentroa screens these works not as an exercise in nostalgia, but as a critical tool to reflect on contemporary questions of historical memory, censorship, and collective coexistence.
✨ An exceptional opportunity to experience on the big screen the cinema that reshaped collective imagination.
